Imagine to get lost in the middle of the giant labyrinth with tall walls and all made by snow! Sounds unbelievable? Put warm jacket and gloves on, I am taking you to the biggest ice maze in the World!
Just a few minutes walk from the Great Krokiew in Zakopane is located the Snowland full of fun and magic!
The giant ice labyrinth first stood in 2015/2016 winter season and right away was considered as the most unique attraction in Zakopane. The incredible construction is made by thousand independent blocks of ice leaning on each other and polished to fit without an additional supporting structure. This year, it covers around 3000 square meters land and it is 500 meters bigger than a year before.
The construction is a quite challenge for 50 specialized builders and mountaineers, who need to prepare 60 thousand snow blocks to build the entire maze. It takes around one mount to prepare and build the complete composition. In addition, the weather can be tricky during the winter season in Poland. The temperature can rise suddenly and bring lots of additional work or completely melt the construction.
The structure was designed by Darek Pytlik and Artur Haber. They want to break the Guinness Record hold by the Arctic Ice Maze at Buffalo Powder Keg Festival in Buffalo, New York from February 2010.
Despire the snow labyrynth, the Snowland contains the castle where you can have fun and enjoy the view of the Tatra National Park and the Great Krokiew. There is also the Palace of the Snow Queen carved on the ice with lots of ice chambers. Huge track and a mini zoo for kids.
The entry to the maze costs 18 zl (4 euro) per person. The price is lower for families and kids. If you want to know more here’s an official website of the Snowland.
